K9 Club Smoothie Making

CAS Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

  2. Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

  3. Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

It was always fascinating to watch a person make smoothies. As a kid, I grew up playing games like 'Coffee Cafe' and shopkeeper where the act of being a person who works in a coffee club seemed cool and fun. Similarly, when K9 Club decided to sell hot dogs and make smoothies on school events to raise funds. Immediately, I called dips on making smoothies. The K9 Club is a club focusing on charity for dogs and collecting funds to help out a nonprofit organization, CHSA Thai shelter which is home to 2000+ dogs, that we are associated with. During International day and Animal Week in Wells, K9 had booths were we would make strawberry smoothies in front of them and give it to them for a sensible price. The CAS experience of coming up with the idea of making smoothies and executing the idea resulted in a successful, positive response leading the club to continue this experience. I have shown consistent engagement in making smoothies during school events because I enjoy making smoothies. The process of smoothie making is very satisfying as well as very messy. The profit from making smoothies is donated to CHSA Thai shelter to financially support them to provide the dogs who are hurt, ill, weak, abused and many more problems with the best services and equipment. By participating in these events we are raising awareness about animal abuse and animal adoption in school, as this is a very important global issue. Making smoothie was successful because of the amazing teamwork. The entire club was working together and given different tasks to work effectively. I was in charge of making the smoothies, while a classmate was refilling the ingredients, one was blending the smoothie while a member was pouring them in the cups. Lastly, one person was in charge of money and one was responsible to deliver it to the person. This process was effective and felt professional to see how the club members work together as a perfect team. Lastly, this CAS experience was something new and it turned out to be fun with developing skills likes making smoothies and teamwork, for a good global cause. I am looking forward to making more smoothies in future events.
